Royal Valley Keeps Winning With Sweep of Perry

It was Big 7 League basketball and a rematch on Tuesday night in the Purple Palace as both Royal Valley teams kept their win streaks intact against Perry Lecompton and completed a season sweep. 

GIRLS = Royal Valley 65, Perry Lecompton 44

Both girls teams were playing for the second straight night and the game was very close through the first half as the Panthers led 28-21 at halftime. RV stretched the margin to 15 points in the third period before Perry answered with five quick points to make it 52-42. From there, Royal Valley finished the game on a 13-2 run to make the final margin. 

Mahpiya Irving followed her 24-point outing Monday in a win against Sabetha with a 27-point night against the Kaws, knocking down five of the Panthers eight three-pointers. Wakiyan Wi Irving added 14 points as the Royal Valley girls won their eighth game in a row to improve to 11-2 on the season. 

Perry Lecompton got 11 points from Chloe Daniels, while Campbell Keller added 10, and Halle Gonzalez chipped in 9 in a good-shooting and rebounding night that the Kaws couldn't overcome 18 turnovers. Perry is now 4-9 on the season.

Thanks to an 11-0 run, Royal Valley jumped to a 14-2 lead and never really looked back. The Panthers led by as many as 16 points in the second quarter and were ahead 30-18 at halftime. RV used an 11-0 run to start the fourth quarter and stretch the largest lead of the game to 53-33 before the Kaws answered with a 13-0 run themselves and were down only 53-46 with 1:42 remaining. 

Gunnar Ball had 18 points and 13 rebounds for Perry with Brad Robb adding nine points as the Kaws fell to 6-6 on the season and only got one field goal from top Big 7 scoring threat, Parker Stone. 

Nahcs Wahwassuck, who leads the Big 7 in scoring, steals and assists, had 19 points, while Brady Klotz had another big night with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Mason Thomas delivered 11 points and Jake Kelly had 8 as the Panthers won their 11th straight game to improve to 11-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in League play.
