Valley Heights defeated Onaga 46-7 on the road to get their first win of the season. Despite the lopsided victory, the Mustangs got off to a bit of a slow start. They only led the Buffaloes 8-7 after the first quarter with a 66-yard rushing touchdown by sophomore running back Jayden DeWalt.

Onaga’s lone touchdown came from senior quarterback Zac Fisher with 2:47 left in the opening quarter, but he would leave the game with less than a minute to go in the quarter with a leg injury.

Sophomore backup quarterback Jackson Kolterman came in and played hard, but the offense couldn’t get past the tough Valley Heights defense.

This allowed Valley Heights to gain some momentum as DeWalt got two more touchdowns before the end of the half after turning over the Buffaloes twice.

In the second half, DeWalt started off the scoring with his fourth touchdown of the game this time from 63 yards out. He would add another score for good measure and would end the day with 288 rushing yards and five touchdowns on just 11 carries and in only 26 minutes. He is the Farmers State Bank “Player to Bank On”.

Freshman running back Montana Davis also got a touchdown at the end of the game for the Mustangs.

Valley Heights play their second home game of the season next week against fellow TVL opponent Troy. As for Onaga, they will be on the road against Centralia.
