Sports in Kansas Tabs Booth, Hajek and Detweiler as Players of the Year

Sports in Kansas has announced their Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year for the 2022 football season for all classifications. 

3A Offensive Player of the Year: Garyson Booth (Holton) 

Garyson Booth led the Holton rushing attack in 2022 as the Wildcats started the season and ended the season ranked #2 in 3A. 

Booth finished this season with 134 carries for 1,688 yards and 21 touchdowns. Holton as a team averaged 363 rushing yards per game and averaged nearly nine yards per carry. 

Holton finished this season 11-2 and lost in the State Championship game to Andale. The other loss for the Wildcats was against 2A Champion Nemaha Central in week one. 

Booth for his career has rushed for 2,711 yards and 33 touchdowns while averaging 11 yards per carry. 

2A Offensive Player of the Year: Cooper Hajek (Nemaha Central) 

Nemaha Central opened the season ranked #2 in 2A and delivered the perfect 13-0 season with a State Championship. 

Cooper Hajek from the jump was one of the best running backs in the state and he proved it week in and week out. 

Hajek rushed for 2,093 yards and 42 touchdowns this season and rushed for over 200 yards and four touchdowns in the State Title game win over Kingman. 

It was the Thunder's second State Title in the last four seasons and they led 2A this season by averaging over 48 points per game. 

8M-II Offensive Player of the Year: Isaac Detweiler (Axtell) 

It's the second consecutive year for Axtell's Isaac Detweiler to be named the 8M-II Offensive Player of the Year. 

He led the Eagles to their second straight State Championship as they beat Thunder Ridge for the title and have won 26 straight games. 

This season, Isaac threw for 2,135 yards and 45 touchdowns with just one interception while rushing for 906 yards and 20 more scores. Axtell led 8M-II is scoring offense for the second straight season. 

Isaac tied the 8M State Title game passing record with seven touchdowns. He's accounted for 205 total touchdowns in his career including 201 offensive touchdowns. That is the most touchdowns for any player in Kansas history. 

He'll go down as arguably one of the best players in Kansas history. 

Over 30 different media members across Kansas determine the annual Players of the Year.
