The Axtell football team, for the second consecutive year, earned the #1 spot in our Top 10 Moments of the Year.

The Eagles went back-to-back as they won their second straight 8M-II State Championship dominating the competition from the beginning.

They went undefeated again at 13-0 and will enter next season on a 26-game winning streak.

In the State Championship game against Thunder Ridge, the Eagles scored 52 unanswered points to run away with the title 76-28.

Big numbers in the title game, quarterback Isaac Detweiler accounted for nearly 390 yards of total offense and eight total touchdowns. His seven passing touchdowns tied the 8M-II State Title game record.

Brandon Schmelzle had 147 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns while Eli Broxterman added four touchdowns with three receiving and one rushing.

Detweiler was named 8M-II Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. He accounted for 205 total touchdowns in his career, which is the most for any player in Kansas history.

Head coach Eric Detweiler was named 8M-II Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.
