The Sabetha basketball teams swept a pair of games on Friday night at Perry Lecompton.

Girls: Sabetha 48, Perry Lecompton 21

Offense was hard to come by early in this game but the Bluejays would turn it up in the second quarter and ultimately pull away for the win.

Sabetha (5-4, 4-3) led 6-2 after the first quarter but would outscore the Kaws 16-4 in the second quarter to lead 22-5 at halftime.

Perry Lecompton (4-5, 2-4) would play a much better third quarter but the fourth quarter was dominated by Sabetha with a 16-6 advantage.

The Bluejays were led by KNZA player of the game Mary Lukert with 13 points while Alexia Hayden added nine points on 3 three's.

The Kaws were led by Alyson Farmer and Brooke Metcalfe who each finished with six points.

Boys: Sabetha 62, Perry Lecompton 59

This game was as good as advertised as it came down to the final few possessions.

Sabetha's Matthew Garber and Perry's Kamryn Kaniper stole the show as they exchanged buckets down the home stretch making big shot after big shot.

Garber missed a free throw in the final few seconds which gave the Kaws the chance to tie the game and send it to overtime but the late three came up short.

Garber finished with 29 points and was the KNZA player of the game while Kaniper finished with 27 points.

Sabetha (9-0, 7-0) stays atop the Big 7 standings while the Kaws (6-3, 4-2) drop a couple games back in the loss column and sit in third place behind Holton.

Up next: The Sabetha boys and girls begin the Burlington Invitational on Tuesday with first round games. The boys play Paola while the girls will play against Ottawa. The Perry boys will participate in the Valley Falls Tournament and will play Tuesday night against Valley Falls. The Perry girls have a week off and are back in action Friday at home against Hiawatha.
