The Sabetha basketball teams split a Friday night doubleheader at Silver Lake in their first games back post the mid-season tournaments.

Girls: Sabetha 39, Silver Lake 62

Sabetha and Silver Lake came out firing in the first quarter as the Bluejays led 14-13. Silver Lake tightened up the defense in the second quarter and led 25-20 at halftime.

The game turned in the third quarter as the Eagles scored 19 of the first 21 points and would pull away big outscoring the Bluejays 37-19 in the second half.

Sabetha (7-6) was led in the game by Mary Lukert with 12 points and seven rebounds while Alexia Hayden added 11 points which included three made shots from behind the arc.

Silver Lake (12-1), the #7 ranked team in 3A, was balanced across the board as they were led by Kenzie McDaniel with 16 points and eight rebounds. McKinley Kruger added 15 points and Kaibryn Kruger added 12.

Boys: Sabetha 71, Silver Lake 53

The nightcap got out of hand very quickly. Sabetha rolled to a 23-2 first quarter advantage on their way to a big time win on the road.

The lead was 43-16 at halftime and even some reserve players for the Bluejays got solid minutes in the back half of the second quarter.

Silver Lake played a much better second half but it was not enough to make the game close. The 3A #1 ranked Bluejays (13-0) remain undefeated and got balanced scoring down the lineup.

Davis Rokey led the way with 22 points while Christian McAfee added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Marcus Bauman finished with 12 while Matthew Garber had eight.

The Eagles (4-9) were led by Troy Heiman with 14 points while Elijah Lopez, Jared Johnson, and Braxton McDaniel each added nine.

Up next for Sabetha, they jump back into Big 7 league play as they will travel to Riverside on Tuesday.
