Centralia advances to the semifinals of the Onaga sub-state tournament with their 48-39 win over Onaga.

The first quarter was close with Centralia leading the whole way. On the first play of the second quarter, Onaga sophomore Bridgett Campbell made a three to take their first lead of the game.

However, that would be their only lead of the game as Centralia would proceed to go on a 8-2 run and have a two-possession lead or greater for the rest of the way. Most of the night, they had a lead of ten points or greater.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Centralia sophomore Oen Deters, who led the team in points, picked up her fourth foul and had to exit the game for a few minutes. This was a chance for Onaga to strike and they cut the deficit to six after a 6-0 run. Centralia, however, responded with a 6-0 run of their own and pulled away for the victory.

Deters finished with 16 points with just three field goal makes but went 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Freshman forward Cora Thompson and junior guard Tori Kuckelman both scored eight points as well.

Campbell and senior guard Eva Krohn led the Buffaloes in scoring in the loss with 11 points apiece. Krohn scored nine points in the second half with three three-pointers. Campbell scored six points in the fourth quarter.

The Panthers will resume their tournament run in the semifinals against the top-seed Burlingame on Thursday, March 2nd in Onaga.

Onaga’s season finishes with a record of 9-11.
