The Onaga Buffalo boys’ golf team took home first place at the Centralia Invitational which was held at Spring Creek Golf Course in Seneca.

The Buffaloes’ top four shot a 346 with junior Konnor Nider taking home first place individually with a five-over par 76. He was the only participant to break 80. He got his lone birdie on the 17th hole with the field scoring an average score of 5.7 on the par four.

Nider’s success Monday afternoon came from playing consistently and not making many mistakes. Both of his nine-hole scores were sub-40 and he only had two sixes on his scorecard which were both on par fives. The junior also didn’t record a single double bogey during his tournament victory.

Nider’s 76 is also his personal career best in a high school varsity tournament. His previous best was an 84 at the Washington County Invitational last May.

His teammates senior Eli Oliver placed third with an 83, freshman Graham Valburg placed in solo eighth place with a 91 and senior Luke Wertsburger rounds out their top four with a 96 good for 11th place.

Washington County took second place at the tournament with junior Carson Kearn placing third individually with an 83.

Centralia took home third place at their home meet with junior Paxton Bowers placing second with an 80. He finished his round on a high note with a birdie on the par five 18th which was the second-toughest hole with an average score of 6.9.

Royal Valley placed fourth with a team score of 388, Holton finished fifth with a 426 and Frankfort’s team score of 469 got them sixth place. Valley Heights and Hanover also had golfers play on Monday but didn’t have enough for a team score.
