Sabetha Wins St. Mary's Invitational

Sabetha got another team win at the St. Mary’s Golf Invitational at Stagg Hill Golf Club in Manhattan on Thursday.

The Bluejays finished with a team score of 338 which was three strokes better than second-place Nemaha Central (341).

After a solid team outing on Tuesday, Holton followed it up with a fifth-place finish shooting a score of 365.

Other area teams include Jefferson West finishing ninth (385), Perry-Lecompton placing 11th (433) and Frankfort with a 14th place finish (503).

Sabetha had three golfers finish in the top five individually. Juniors Dalton Rokey and Cullen Wikle shot an 82 and 84, good enough for fourth and fifth place, respectively. Sophomore Roman Scoby also shot an 84.

Rokey’s 82 was a season-best and tied for his career-best in a high school varsity tournament. Scoby also had a career-low score with his 84.

Nemaha Central was led by senior Isaac Lueger with an 81. Junior Aidan Broxterman also cracked the top ten with an eighth-place finish and score of 85.

First place went to Drew Buchman of Council Grove, who shot a two-under 70. The sophomore birdied the first four holes of the back-nine after a one-over front-nine. It was a career-best for Buchman on Thursday. He won the tournament by ten strokes.

The Manhattan golf course was hopping with high school golfers on Thursday with 81 total competitors and 14 full teams. The tournament average score was 102.4.
