Clifton Clyde girls and Axtell boys win TVL Meet

The Clifton Clyde girls and Axtell boys track and field teams won the TVL Meet on Thursday afternoon at Washington County. 

Girls: Clifton Clyde finished the day with 108 points with Washington County finishing in second place with 76 points. 

Hanover (70), Frankfort (68) and Centralia (44) rounded out the top five team scores. 

For Clifton Clyde, it's their first TVL title since 2009. Sevy Wurtz broke the Clifton Clyde and TVL record in the long jump while Whitley Sikes tied the school record in the pole vault. 

Washington County was led by Addy Goeckel who won both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Lillee Richard won the pole vault and Jesse Hoover won the javelin. 

Hanover's Anna Jueneman won three events in the 100, 200 and 400 meters while Linn's Claire Beikmann won the 1600 meters. 

Centralia's Reagan Becker won the high jump and Doniphan West's Claire Cole won the triple jump. 

Remaining team scores outside of the top five - Doniphan West (41), Linn (33), Valley Heights (29), Troy (27), Blue Valley (21), Onaga (21) and Axtell (16). 

Boys: Axtell had a dominant afternoon running away with the league title with 164 points with Frankfort finishing second place with 65 points. 

Valley Heights (55), Clifton Clyde (51) and Centralia (49) rounded out the top five team scores. 

Brandon Schmelzle continued his strong spring season for Axtell as he won the 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump and triple jump. Grady Buessing won the 800 meters and 1600 meters while Evan Buessing won the 3200 meters. 

Eli Broxterman won the 300 meter hurdles and Sawyer Deters won the discuss. The Eagles also won the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays. 

Frankfort picked up the win in the 4x100 meter relay along with a second place finish from Ty Smith in the javelin and Brock Armstrong in the pole vault. 

Logan Gray of Valley Heights won the 400 meters while Jack Skocny and Payton Fahey of Clifton Clyde won both the high jump and pole vault respectively. 

Remaining team scores outside of the top five - Linn (37), Blue Valley (33), Washington County (29), Wetmore (18), Troy (18), Hanover (13), Doniphan West (13) and Onaga (5).
