High school basketball will have some rule changes ahead of the 2023-2024 season. 

Free throw procedures and foul administration highlight the changes. The change to rule 4-8-1 eliminates the 1-and-1 scenario and sets new foul limits each quarter for awarding bonus free throws. 

Teams will reach the bonus when their opponent commits five fouls in each quarter and team fouls will reset at the end of each quarter in addition to awarding two shots for all common fouls. 

The rule changes were approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations Basketball rules committee at its annual meeting last month. 

The recommendations were approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
