Doniphan County Post 55 secured a 10-5 comeback victory over the Hiawatha Post 66 Braves with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Hiawatha scored three runs in the top of the first with runs coming home on a wild pitch, a passed ball and an RBI groundout from starting pitcher Kaden Smith.
They added two more with RBI walks from left fielder Cooper Jacobsen and center fielder Ashton Rockey to go up 5-0.
Doniphan County was able to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning with runs scoring on a wild pitch and an error. They got two more in the third with a two-RBI triple from catcher Cooper Eberly.
Both relief pitchers posted scoreless fourth and fifth innings until Doniphan County’s offense caught fire in the sixth inning. They got an RBI single from first baseman Beckam Griffin to tie the game and the go-ahead RBI single from second baseman Ryder Davis.
Starting pitcher Austin Grable and left fielder Kole Franken gave Doniphan County two more RBI singles as well with another run scoring on an error and their final run of the inning coming from an Eberly bases loaded walk.
Davis pitched 5.1 innings of relief and gave up no runs, five walks and only three hits with four strikeouts. He was credited with the win as well.
Franken is the McDonald’s Player of the Game going 4-for-4 with four singles, two runs and an RBI.
Center fielder Logan Blevins had a multi-hit game as well going 2-for-3 with two runs.
