The Doniphan County legion baseball team opened up the AA Zone 4 Tournament in Seneca on Tuesday night with a wild 11-8 win in nine innings over Sabetha.

Doniphan County wasted no time scoring four runs in the first inning highlighted by a Cooper Eberly three RBI double. They led the game 8-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning as they added one more in the second and three more in the fifth.

Sabetha then put together a furious rally scoring two in the fifth, two in the sixth, and then four in the seventh to force extra innings.

The four runs in the seventh were all scored with two outs and the damage was done with five straight hits.

Doniphan County threw out what would've been the winning run at home to end the inning.

Both teams went scoreless in the eighth and then Doniphan County would add three runs in the ninth inning. Ryder Davis drove in the go-ahead run with a double and Eberly would add another with a single.

Dustin Veach retired Sabetha in order in the bottom of the ninth to secure the victory.

Kolter Peterson pitched six strong innings for Doniphan County while Davis and Veach pitched the final three innings.

Marcus Bauman pitched the first two innings for Sabetha and was replaced by Will Ulrich who was strong through five plus innings.

Eberly was the KNZA McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game reaching in all five at-bats with four hits, including two doubles, and four RBI's.

Doniphan County advances to the next round and will play top-seed Corning on Wednesday night at 8 PM. Hiawatha and Seneca will play first at 6 PM with both games broadcast live on KNZA 103.9 FM.

Sabetha needs to win out to advance to state and they'll await the loser of the Seneca/Hiawatha game on Thursday night.
