The Corning legion baseball team survived an elimination game at the AA State Tourney in Concordia on Thursday night with a 16-5 win over Colby.

Corning kept their state title hopes alive after dropping their first game of the day to Beloit.

The game was blown open in the third inning as Corning would plate nine runs on seven hits. In total they sent 15 batters to the plate in that inning.

They scored in every inning except the fifth as they scored one in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth, and four more in the sixth. The four runs in the sixth allowed the game to end via the run rule.

Everyone in the lineup contributed in some way for Corning. Zac Fisher reached base in all five of his at-bats and drove in a game high five runs while scoring three runs.

Kyler Wommack added three hits including a double. Hunter Lamond and Trenton Talley each reached base three times and scored multiple runs.

J.T. Ross was named the McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game pitching three innings in relief and allowing no runs and five hits in three innings with a game high eight strikeouts.

Corning will play another elimination game on Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM against either Seneca or Garnett.

The broadcast can be heard live on KMZA 92.1 FM
