The Seneca legion baseball team dropped their first game at the AA State Tournament in Concordia on Friday with 5-4 loss to Garnett.
The game was tied 1-1 going into the fourth inning. Garnett got their first run on a fielders choice while Seneca got their first run on a wild pitch.
Garnett built a 5-1 lead after they scored three in the fourth and one more in the fifth. Two of the Garnett five runs in the game were scored by balks called against Kace Kramer.
Seneca battled back with two in the fifth with RBI hits from Reese Gerety and Jonah Deters. They added one more in the sixth to get within 5-4 on a run from a wild pitch.
Seneca had a chance to force extra innings as they had Wade Leonard at third base with one out but back-to-back strikeouts ended the game.
Garnett finished the game with six hits and they left six on base while Seneca finished with five hits and they left seven on base.
Kramer was named the McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game as he pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts. He also added two singles, a stolen base, and a run scored.
The loss for Seneca sets them up for an elimination game at 2:00 PM on Friday afternoon against Corning.
Corning kept their tournament title hopes alive with a 16-5 win over Colby on Thursday night.
