The Sabetha Bluejays opened their 2023 season with a 30-0 win on the road at Perry-Lecompton in Big 7 league action.
Sabetha entered the season ranked #2 in Class 2A according to K-Preps and they certainly showed it against the Kaws.
Colin Menold capped a short 35-yard touchdown drive with a five yard run in the first quarter to give Sabetha a 7-0 lead. Will Voos would add the other touchdown late in the first half from nine yards out as the Bluejays led 14-0 at halftime.
Perry-Lecompton's first possession of the second half was a fumble. The Bluejays one play later scored on a 46-yard touchdown from Mitchell Kramer to Marcus Bauman to make it 21-0.
The Sabetha defense would add a safety in the third quarter and the Kramer/Bauman connection would hit one more time in the fourth quarter from 15 yards out.
Kramer completed seven of 10 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Colin Menold led the ground game with 75 yards and a touchdown. Bauman finished with three receptions for 70 yards and two scores.
Perry-Lecompton's eight possessions in the game resulted in two fumbles, two interceptions, two turnover on downs, one safety, and a punt.
Sabetha's week two game will be at home against Holton while the Kaws will travel to Riverside.
