GIRLS: Troy won an absolute thriller over the Redhawks 48-47 on a last second three-pointer from sophomore Harper Whetstine as time expired.

The game was filled with runs from both teams and a lot of turnovers. Troy led 15-8 after the first quarter but the Redhawks outscored Troy 11-4 in the second quarter to take it to halftime at 19-19.

Hiawatha jumped out to an early eight point lead in the second half before the Trojans went on a run over the last few minutes to lead the game 33-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Hiawatha had a chance down the stretch to put the game away at the free throw line but some missed opportunities allowed Troy to have a chance to win it at the buzzer.

Hiawatha led 47-45 with eight seconds left and after a missed free throw, Whetstine dribbled into the front court and launched a deep right-wing three that dropped through the net right as time expired.

Whetstine finished the game with 24 points and 10 rebounds as the Trojans improved to 1-1 on the season. Hiawatha was led by Kenzie Nelson's 20 points while Claire Twombly added 10 points. The loss for the Redhawks dropped them to 0-2 on the season.

BOYS: Hiawatha jumped out to an early lead and never looked back on their way to a dominant win for their first of the season.

The Redhawks were red-hot on offense and built a 19-11 first quarter lead and then led the Trojans 44-23 at halftime after a 25-point burst in the second quarter.

Both teams struggled a little bit on offense in the second half but the Trojans were unable to get much closer in the game.

The Redhawks improved to 1-1 and were led by 18 points from Kaden Morton. Cameron Boswell added 13 points and Ethan Morton chipped in with 10.

Troy dropped to 1-1 on the season with the loss and were led in scoring by Gannon Bowe who finished with 15 points while Jack Hartman added nine off the bench.

Up next for both on Friday, Troy will play at home against Blue Valley while Hiawatha is back at home against Centralia.
