The Jackson Heights Cobras took on the Pleasant Ridge Rams in both electric games. A coincidence about tonight was that the Lady Rams haven’t beaten the Lady Cobras for ten straight games, and as for the boys, the Boy Rams have had eight straight wins against the Cobra Boys, which Coach Plattner in his Cobra Channel interview at the end stating he hasn’t beaten Pleasant Ridge since he became head coach. And let’s just say, that tonight, two long streaks were broken!

Starting things off with the girl's varsity basketball game which ended 46-26 the Rams were able to come out firing, they were up 7-0 in a blink of an eye. One of these players that greatly contributed to their success was Mia Ernzen the first all-league returner from last year. Coming into the game she was set for a breakout game, and boy did she not disappoint! Mia won the player of the game with her seventeen points, twelve coming from the second half. She was benched from a minor leg injury in the second quarter but was able to come off the bench firing putting up the first points of the second half. The Cobra Girls were just not able to compete against the intensity of the Rams fully court press, which so far this year has gifted them 17.5 steals per game.

After one long-awaited upset, another was on the way. However, this one was a dog fight to the fourth quarter. The Cobra Boys were able to end their eight-game losing streak with a 39-26 win over the Rams Boys. The Cobra boys lead a good first quarter with it ending 11-7 maintaining the lead, however, the second quarter is where all things fell apart. The Cobras only put up two points in the second quarter being off of free throws. However, the Rams dominated both sides of the ball with their matchup zone defense and their high-powered offense placing twelve points in the quarter. Coming out of the half the Cobras were down 19-13 and the Snakes needed to strike in the third, and to say the very least, they did not disappoint. The Jackson Heights Cobras outscored the Pleasant Ridge Rams 19-2 in the second quarter, with all the momentum being swung with a three-point shot taken from Westen Shultejans from the near corner putting the Cobras up 23-21. The Fourth quarter was a keep-away match for the Cobra boys and they executed. Drake Mellies won player of the game with his impressive twelve points, and going four-for-six at the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

In conclusion, tonight was a night for the books. Two long-losing streaks were snapped, both losing teams only put up twenty-six points, and both had incredible varsity performances! The Lady Rams improve themselves to 2-1 with the Lady Cobras dropping to 1-2. And as for the Boy Cobras, they will move up to 2-1 (2-0 in NEKL play) and the Boy Rams will drop to 0-2.
