Three straight weeks it feels like history is made for both these boys and girl Cobra Varsity teams, both bad and good. The Lady Cobras in the last week have been beaten by two teams they haven’t lost to since 2018, including the loss last night to the Maur Hill Lady Ravens 48-34. On-top of that the Jackson Height Lady Cobras haven’t been negative going into break since before the NEKL started. Flipping the script the Cobra Boys have beaten two teams in the last week that they haven’t beaten in four years and now tonight against Maur Hill ending a seven season losing streak winning 48-46.

The Lady Cobras had a rough game with nearly three players fouling out and one actually fouling out. They had five fouls in nearly every quarter and they couldn’t stop the quick and explosive Maur Hill Raven offense. The Lady Snakes also couldn’t break the Raven’s full court press, resulting in at-least twenty-plus turnovers. A stand out player for Maur Hill was Rileigh Cox who played absolutely lights out, not only in shooting and rebounding, but she was like the Grinch who stole Christmas but instead she was stealing every possession away from the Cobra Girls. Rileigh Cox won my player to bank on with 14 points. Halftime ended 34-15 and by the second half the Ravens JV saw more minutes than their varsity. The Lady Cobras did not  out-score the Lady Ravens in any quarter, it was a total clinic put on from Maur Hill Mount Academy.

Time for the real fireworks to begin, this boy’s game was absolutely one of the ages. The Cobra boys were down 0-4 in the first quarter then scored 10 straight to make it 10-4, the quarter ended 13-11, cobras lead. The first half ended 27-19, and the Cobra Boys looked like the were in pace to finally break the streak; However, in the reverse of last week for the cobras where they came back down 8, they got tied at 36-36 and even dropped the lead multiple times. With three minutes and twenty-eight seconds left on the clock the game was 40-36 and both teams combined for 18 points in the last minutes of play. The Cobra boys came out victorious 48-46. Drake Mellies put the team on his back going six-of-seven from around the arch, and for his second straight game going four-for-six on free throws in the final quarter. Mellies won my player to bank on, sponsored by the Farmers State Bank.

The Jackson Heights Boys improved to 3-1 and 3-0 in league play, the Cobra girls will drop to 1-3 and 1-2 in league play. As for the Ravens; The Lady Ravens will progress to 4-0 in both league and overall play, and the Raven boys will drop to 2-2 after losing back to back heart crushing games by two.
