The Riverside girls and Hiawatha boys earned Big 7 league wins on Tuesday night in what were the final games of the 2023 portion of the schedule.

The Riverside girls jumped out to an early 14-4 lead at the end of the first quarter in the first game of the night. They would build on that lead with the score being 25-13 at halftime.

The Redhawks didn't go away as they scored 22 points in the third quarter and got to within eight points going into the fourth quarter.

The Cyclones would not let Hiawatha get any closer and they would pull away for the 56-39 victory behind a monster performance from Taylor Weishaar.

The reigning SIK 2A Player of the Year and Central Missouri commit finished the game with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Niahla Duncan added 13 points, Abby O'Grady finished with eight points and Halle Studer finished with seven points.

Hiawatha was led by Kenzie Nelson with 12 points while Addison Williams finished with nine points and Alija Contreras finished with seven points.

Riverside, #2 in 2A, head into the holiday break at 6-0 (4-0 Big 7) while the Redhawks hit the break at 1-5 (1-2 Big 7).

The Hiawatha boys would win an absolute thriller in the nightcap as the game went into overtime with the Redhawks winning 55-53.

The game was close and back-and-forth in the first half with Hiawatha leading the game 28-24 at the break. They would add to that lead and have an early eight point lead in the fourth quarter.

Riverside though would battle back and the game saw multiple lead changes down the stretch. Both teams had a chance to essentially win the game in regulation and were unable to do so.

Riverside missed a late free throw which would've given them a lead with under 10 seconds remaining and then Hiawatha couldn't get up a final shot which could've won them the game at the buzzer.

The game stayed close in overtime and Riverside would have one second left but the desparation three-point shot at the buzzer fell short and the Redhawks were able to hold on.

Kaden Morton led Hiawatha with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Cameron Boswell finished the game with 15 points.

Riverside was led by Ty'Zell Harrington who finished the game with 17 points, Beckam Griffin finished with 11 points and Percy Duncan finished with nine points.

Hiawatha hits the break at 3-3 (1-2 Big 7) while the Cyclones head into the break with a record of 1-5 (0-4 Big 7). Both teams back in action on Jan. 5th with Hiawatha traveling to Royal Valley while Riverside will play at Perry-Lecompton.
