#4 Oskaloosa Girls Wrestlers Win Back-to-Back State Titles

The Oskaloosa girls wrestling program shined bright at the 4-1A State Tournament in Salina this past February as both sophomore Holly Thacher and senior Allison King both won State Titles for a second consecutive season. 

Thacher won all four of her matches to repeat at 105 while King also won all four of her matches to repeat at 155. 

Thacher's first win of the tournament was by pinfall with her other three matches by decision including a 2-1 final in the championship. 

King was dominant as three of her four wins were by pinfall including a second-round pin in the championship match.

Thacher finished the season 32-2 while King finished her senior season with a record of 34-1. King also had a runner-up finish at state during her sophomore season.

#3 Doniphan West Girls Basketball Team Wins First State Championship in School History

The Doniphan West Lady Mustangs were crowned State Champions at the 1A Division I state tournament in Dodge City this past March. 

It didn't come easy for the fifth seed out of the Twin Valley League, as they drew Central Plains in the first round. The Oilers were eight-time champs hoping to defend their 2022 title, and the Mustangs rolled 60-40. In the semi-finals, they had the task of facing top-seed Norwich, and they took care of business by knocking off the Eagles 52-38. In the state title game, they were faced with a tall task with the Quinter Bulldogs opposing them. D-West would not be denied what was destined for them this year, as they won 55-49 to bring home the school's first state title.

The three seniors, Kyra Johnson alongside Claire Cole and Avery Weathersbee, willed their team to win. Cole finished with eight points and three assists in the title game. Weathersbee with 12 points and eight boards, while Johnson finished her career with a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds.
