Frankfort's Dominant Second Quarter Carries Them to State Semifinals

Frankfort was victorious on Thursday night over St. John in the Class 1A-DI quarterfinal round as they won by a final score of 51-34.

Frankfort started the game with a 4-3 lead, but St. John then went on a 7-0 run to go up 10-4. Hattie Gros would make a much-needed three and Frankfort would trail 11-7 going into the second quarter.

The Wildcats continued their strong finish in the first quarter and carried into the second with a 7-1 run to tie the game 11-11. After both teams exchanged baskets, Frankfort got the lead back for the first time since going up 4-3. The run would grow and grow to the end of the half with the Wildcats getting a 24-5 run after starting the game down 10-4 to take a 28-15 lead at halftime. Frankfort outscored St. John 21-4 in the second quarter.

The third quarter was lower scoring, but Frankfort was able to extend their lead by two. They outscored St. John 10-8 thanks to a couple of threes from Ashlyn Dalinghaus and Breleigh Ebert.

Frankfort took care of business in the fourth quarter by making an array of free throws, and Sydney Wapp made a pair of two-point field goals to get back to the semifinals.

Alexis Dalinghaus finished the game with 12 points including six points in the pivotal second quarter, making her the Player of the Game brought to you by Farmers State Bank. Gros matched her point total with 12 points.

The Wildcats will play again Friday night against South Gray at 8:00 p.m. on 92.1 FM KMZA.
