Jefferson West came back from down 6-0 and scored seven unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to defeat Perry-Lecompton at home 7-6 on Monday afternoon.

Tristan Norwood started the scoring with a solo home run over the left-field fence in the second inning for Perry-Lecompton.

The next inning, they added two more runs with Cayden Byers bringing in a run with an RBI groundout and Norwood hitting an RBI single.

Byers got another RBI in the fifth inning with a bases-loaded walk. Houston Habiger followed that with a two-RBI single to put the Kaws up 6-0 after the top of the fifth inning.

The comeback started with two Tigers scoring in the bottom of the fifth via error.

In the sixth inning, Brady Skahan pinch-hit for Cooper Watkins and got an RBI on a bases-loaded walk. Eli Roberts got a two-RBI single in the next at-bat cutting their deficit to one run. Two batters later, Drew Beilman brought the game-tying run in with an RBI double and the winning run scored on an error in center field.

Tristen Norwood started on the rubber for Perry-Lecompton, and he was efficient in his start. He pitched three-and-two-thirds innings and gave up just one walk, no runs and four hits with four strikeouts. He was pulled early in the game because the Kaws wanted him to be eligible to pitch on Thursday against Sabetha, a decision that ended up being costly.

Cooper Watkins was solid as well for Jefferson West. He pitched four innings in his start and gave up four walks, four hits and six earned runs while striking out five. He came back into the game and got the save in the seventh inning with one walk, one strikeout and no hits or runs allowed.

Beilman was 3-for-4 with two singles and a double with an RBI. Gage Galle had a multi-hit day going 2-for-4, Roberts was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, Brodie Thelen was 2-for-4 with two runs and Alex Jacobson went 2-for-4 with a run.

Jefferson West’s next doubleheader will be in Hoyt against Royal Valley on Thursday afternoon.
