Nebraska freshman Shavon Shields (Olathe, Kan.) was honored Monday, as he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Shields had 17 points and seven rebounds in Nebraska’s win over Iowa on Saturday, scoring 12 of his points in the second half to help the Huskers overcome a 16-point halftime deficit.  It was the fifth time in Big Ten play he has reached double figures and the second time he has won the Big Ten honor. Shields also earned Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week honors on Jan. 21.

On the season, Shields is averaging 8.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, including 18.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg over the Huskers last two contests.

Nebraska returns to action Tuesday night, as they take on nationally ranked Wisconsin. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
