Doniphan West Boys Pull Away from a Tied Half Against Onaga with an Excelled Finish to Win TVL Tournament Opener

The Doniphan West Mustangs and Onaga have yet to match up this season but will have a regular season league game later on in the year, before that, they must brawl in a TVL tournament showdown to start the season, and the Mustangs came out swinging. 

Boys - Doniphan West over Onaga 55-42

Doniphan West started the game with a bang from a long three-pointer from Cooper Eberly to take the lead. The Mustangs would hold a decent lead until the last twenty seconds of the first quarter where Onaga would get ahead 13-11 before going into the second quarter.

The Mustangs would out-score the Buffaloes 18-16 in the second quarter to go into a 29-29 halftime. Cooper Eberly would add on two more threes in this quarter for the Mustangs while Dustin Veach would do the same with back-to-back threes. Casen Huftles for the Buffaloes would finish with thirteen points, all from the first half. 

The third quarter would start just as electric as the first for the Mustangs however the Mustangs would ride that momentum into the fourth quarter leading the way 44-36. Micheal Albers had six points in the quarter and Kolter Peterson had five points. 

The final quarter was still favored by the Mustangs out-scoring the Buffaloes 11-6 in the quarter to end the game 55-42. Kelby Windmeyer would get his biggest burst of wind in this quarter with five points and Kolter Peterson would have four himself. 

The Mustangs out-rebounded the Buffaloes 23-20 and would hit six total threes compared to the Buffaloes four threes. Kolter Peterson led the scoring for Doniphan West with fifteen points with Kelby Windermeyer right behind home with eleven. Cooper Eberly finished with nine points and five rebounds and Dustin Veach would end with eight and three boards (STATS NOT APPROXIMATE).

Doniphan West improves to now 3-6 on the year and Onaga will drop to 1-8. Doniphan West is set to play Hanover at 7:45 PM on Monday the 20th in the Primary gym at Frankfort.
