Falls City Sacred Heart Girls Finish Third at State Tournament

The Falls City Sacred Heart Girls basketball picked up a 50-35 win over previously top ranked Lindsay Holy Family to win the Third Place game at the Class D2 State Tournament in Lincoln this past weekend.

The Irish finish the season ranked 4th in Class D2 in both the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World Herald.  Three time state champ Wynot finishes on top, Osmond, the team that beat Sacred Heart in the semi finals was second and Deshler placed third in the ratings.

The Irish finish the season 25-5 and did not have a senior on the team.

Irish players had some outstanding performances during the State Tournament.  Freshman Maggie Goltz showed her versatility.  In the opening game of the tournament she led the Irish with a career high 30 points, hitting 12 of 15 shots and grabbing 7 rebounds.  In the Saturday game she tied the Class D2 State Tournament record making 6 three point shots.  She finished the three games with 58 points, which led class D2 and was the 5th highest point total among all six classes.  

Sophomore Elizabeth Magdanz hit five triples in the final game and she ties the Class D2 State Tournament record for three point baskets in a tournament with seven total.  Elizabeth led the Irish in scoring in the final game with 19 points. 

Abby Magdanz pushed her season scoring total to 371 during the tournament which is tied for the 8th best season for the Lady Irish.  She is also in the top 30 on the Irish career scoring list after just two seasons.  

Goltz set a record for points scored by a freshman with 309 on the season and had the third highest single season rebounding total for Sacred Heart grabbing 263 boards. She also had 62 blocks good for the third highest total for the Irish girls.
