The Nemaha Central boys basketball team bounced back on Friday night after their first loss of the season to defeat Silver Lake at home 57-53.

The win for the Thunder (14-1, 7-1) put them into first place in the Big East League standings.

NC jumped out to an early lead and led the game by nine going in the second quarter. They got it to 10 early in the second quarter but Silver Lake (10-4, 6-2) rallied back to tie the game.

The Thunder controlled the final minute of the half and would lead the game 27-22 at halftime.

NC added to it in the third quarter with a 13-7 advantage and it looked like they were going to pull away in the early stages of the fourth quarter.

Silver Lake though would put a heavy rally together and would get the game back to two with a few minutes left but that is as close as they would get the rest of the game.

The Thunder got four cruial free throws late with two from Kaden Peterson and two from Layton Thomas that helped secure the win.

Colby Frehe led Nemaha Central with 14 points, five rebounds, and four blocks including one block in the final seconds that helped close the game in style.

Peterson finished with 13 points, Kalem Schmelzle finished with 12 points and Evan Olberding added 11 points.

The Eagles got 12 points and four rebounds from Dayne Johnson and they also got 11 points from Jared Johnson.
