Holton 14, Frontenac 6

Holton never trailed, but never really put Frontenac away after their long road trip to win a 3A Regional Championship.  The Wildcats ran for 286 yards and took a 7-0 lead with a 55-yard TD run by Andrew Shupe for the only score of the first half.

Frontenac finally found the endzone late in the third period but a high snap led to a blocked PAT and Holton held onto a 7-6 lead. The Wildcats had multiple opportunities to put the game away but fumbled at the three-yard-line and on their next possession ran four plays inside the five-yard-line, but could not punch in a score. Finally, Holton was allowed to score with a Cael Frazier five-yard TD run with 1:30 remaining and held on for the win as Camryn Wheeler intercepted a Frontenac pass.

Frontenac had fumbled earlier in the fourth quarter (big hit by Holton's Kannon Segenhagen) and only had one first down on their final three drives of thee night. The Raiders started the second half with a surprise onside kick, that they recovered. However a penalty for kick-catch interference instead game Holton the football at the Frontenac 43-yard-line. The Raider best scoring opportunities came in the first half but twice they drove inside the Holton 30-yard-line and turne the ball over on downs as the Wildcats made some big plays when they really needed.

The Raiders end their season at the hands of a Big East foe for the third straight year and finish 8-2 on the season. They ran for 128 yards against Holton while Brogan Smith was 5-11 passing for 70 yards and had the only Frontenac touchdown on a 35-yard-run.

Holton was led by Shupe with 145 yards while Korban Wilson added 66. Cael Frazier had 43 yards on the ground and Alec Frazier added 33 as Holton improved to 6-4 on the season and continues their 28th straight post-season run. Holton has now beaten Frontenac 5 of their 7 playoff matchups in the last 11 years.

The 11th seed Wildcats after knocking off #6 Baldwin and #3 seed Frontenac on the road, will play at #2 seed Santa Fe Trail in Sectionals with kickoff at 7 PM on November 15tth. Live coverage on the Holton Channel.
