Kristen Bodyk of Peru State (Neb.) has been tabbed as the NAIA National Softball Player of the Week.  The award is  based on performances from March 25 – 31 out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 21 conference or independent or unaffiliated groupings.

Bodyk, a 5-foot-3 senior shortstop from Paris, Ontario, Canada, batted .846 (11-for-13) with a phenomenal 1.923 slugging percentage in four wins last week. Of her 11 base hits, seven of them were for extra bases, including three home runs. She also posted totals of 18 RBI, seven runs scored and two walks. Her highlight came in the Bobcats' 13-4 victory against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on March 29. She went 4-for-4 with eight RBI, one homer, one triple and two doubles.

She now has 11 career roundtrippers, tying her for eighth on the Bobcat all-time career home run list passing a Peru State Hall of Fame member.

Bodyk became just the fifth Peru State student-athlete in the last 20 years to earn a national player of the week award and just the second softball player to do so.

Tabitha Foster earned Softball Player of the Week recognition in 2007.  Other Peru Staters to be recognized have been Levi Cockle – Football Special Teams Player of the Week – 2011, Stacy Fitch – Volleyball Player of the Week – 1997, and Alex Malcom – Football Player of the Week – 1993.
