Seneca Wins Third Straight NEK Legion Tourney

 It took nine innings, but Seneca prevailed 8-7 scoring on a bases loaded wild pitch with one out.  Alex Rottinghaus tossed 4 1/3 hitless innings in relief to earn the win and Seneca scored five of their seven runs with two outs to improve to 3-0 on the season. They led 5-0 after one inning before Doniphan County took the 7-5 advantage with three tallies in the top of the fifth. Seneca answered with a two-out,  two run hit by David Olberding in the bottom of the frame to make it 7-7. DC starter, Nathan Gaarder threw all nine frames on a gutsy 160 pitch appearance to keep Doniphan County alive before falling to 2-2 on the season. 

David Olberding had three RBI for Seneca while Michael Rottinhaus and Devin Henry each had a pair of hits and Matt Haverkamp was 3-4 in the victory.  Caleb Winkel, Jeffrey Watts and Quenton Munger each had two hits for Doniphan County who got on the board with four runs on four hits in the third to get within 5-4. 

Earlier Monday night at Somerset Park, Sabetha earned third place honors with a 15-1 victory against Holton.  Brendan Garrett tossed all five innings and struck out 10 batters for the win while Holton was plagued by the inability to throw strikes.  Sabetha is 6-2 and while Holton is 1-4 and those teams rematch in the regular season on Wednesday in Holton with live coverage on Kanzaland Radio and MSC Sports.

Of the 10 games at the 2013 NEK League Tournament, 8 ended by run-rule and only 1 went the scheduled 7 innings while the championship lasted 9 before Seneca won their third straight championship.

Doniphan Co -Caleb Winkel 5-12 with 5 runs and 4 RBI, pitched 6 innings allowing 2 hits/1 run Saturday
Doniphan Co - Nathan Gaarder 5-10 with 3 runs and 3 RBI, pitched 9 innings (160 pitches) in title game
Doniphan Co - Quenton Munger, Pheonix Keller, Colton Masters and Jeffrey Watts all had 4 hits
