NEK League Legion Baseball Results -- June 4th

After action in the NEK League legion tournament five of the league teams took action on Tuesday with three in non-league matchups and the other to squaring off in a league showdown.

In non-league games Sabetha and Hiawatha took home teams from across the border in Nebraska with different outcomes for each of the teams. Sabetha dispatched Tecumseh in five innings with a 9-1 win, while Falls City came to Hiawatha and won 8-0 in five innings over Hiawatha.

Doniphan County took the field for a double header on Tuesday, after a marathon loss in the NEK League legion tournament championship. Ozawkie was the opponent for Doniphan County and it was a split on the night between the two teams with 11-4 win for Ozawkie and 12-1 win for Doniphan County in game two.

The lone league game of the evening featured Seneca and Holton in a single game and it was Seneca remaing unbeaten on the season behind an 11-1 five inning win over Holton.

Multiple teams will be in action again tonight with Sabetha at Holton at 8:00pm which will be featured 103.9 KNZA. While, Hiawatha will be at Atchison at 7:00pm in a league showdown and Royal Valley will play a double header at Silver Lake at 6:00 and 8:00pm.

Seneca Sails Past Holton in League Showdown 11-1

Control of the game was determined early in a league showdown between Seneca and Holton as Seneca played host and took control behind an eight run first inning, cruising to an 11-1 win on the night.

Seneca did their damage behind nine hits on the night with Eric Huerter leading the way with a 2-2 night with three RBI, a walk and two runs scored. David Olberding and Alex Rottinghaus each added a pair of hits on the night to help Seneca's offense produce their 11 runs.

Matt Haverkamp earned the pitching win for Seneca, allowing only one run over four innings while striking out five and only allowing four hits and a walk.

Holton got their lone run in the top of third of the contest, but Seneca answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

With the win Seneca remained unbeaten on the season improving to 4-0, while Holton fell, too 1-5 on the season.

 

Sabetha Cruises Past Tecumseh 9-1 in Five Innings

Sabetha pounced early in the matchup against Tecumseh to push to a 7-1 lead in the third innings with Blake Popkess recording a two-out bases clearing double in third. Two more runs were added as Sabetha finished the game off in five innings for th 9-1 win. Tyler Edelman lead the way offensively with a pair of hits and runs scored.

Graham Droge and Graham Howard combined to pitch the game for Sabetha with Droge earning the win after starting the game and pitching three innings giving up a single run on a pair of hits. Howard finished the game in the final two innings not allowing a hit in the final frames.

With the win Sabetha improved to 7-2 on the season and turns their attention to a road league game against Holton tonight.

 

Falls City Tops Hiawatha in Non-League Game 8-0 in Five Innings

Falls City Blue Strom charged out to an early five-run lead in the first inning and sailed to the 8-0 win in Hiawatha. Adding a run in the second, third and fifth inning to seal the deal, Falls City out-hit Hiawatha eight to one.

Hiawatha only manage three base runners in the contest with a single hit, hit batter and player reaching on an error; Jeff Costa registered the lone hit of the game for Hiawatha.

Lane Scheitel shutdown the Hiawatha offense, earning the pitching win for Falls City going all five innings striking out seven, giving up one-hit and a hit batter.

With the loss Hiawatha falls to 2-3 on the season, lossing their last three after opening the season with a double header sweep of Holton. Next up for the Hiawatha they head out on the road for a league showdown with Atchison tonight at 7:00pm.

 

Doniphan County Splits Double Header with Ozawkie

After a marathon loss in the NEK League legion tournament championship game Doniphan County hit the field again for a double header against non-league opponent Ozawkie.

In game one, Doniphan County lead it 3-1 going into the sixth inning of action but Ozawkie pounced late in the ball game rallying for a 11-4 win over Doniphan County. Doniphan County plagued themselves in the ball game stranding 15 on the bases and committing six errors. 

Game two, Doniphan Counties offense poured out the runs posting 12 on the board to grab the 12-1 five inning win for the double header split. Cody Israel lead the way at the plate with a 3-3 game, while Colton Masters tallied two hits, including a home run.

While the offense produced for Doniphan County, the pitching of Dylan Gabriel perhaps was the highlight of game two as he pitched the five inning no-hit shutout with six strikeouts.

With the split, Doniphan County moved to 4-3 on the season.
