Sabetha rocks Atchison 14-0 in five innings

Usually at the four spot in a batting lineup, that’s reserved for the cleanup man. A batter who drives in runs and sets the tone for the rest of the lineup.

First baseman Tyler Edelman answered that call.

Edelman went 4-4 with seven RBI and pitcher Graham Howard didn’t allow a hit and Sabetha defeated Atchison 14-0 in five innings.

The big left-handed Edelman stepped to the plate and belted a ball over the right-field fence to start the second inning. After a two-RBI double by Nolan Keim, Edelman returned to the batter’s box with the bases loaded and two outs. Just like his first at-bat, he smashed the ball down the first-base line, but this time, the ball stayed in the ballpark and Edelman cleared the bases on a three-RBI double.

In his next two at-bats, Edelman posted an RBI-double and a two-RBI single and fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle.

Graham Howard was impressive, not allowing a single hit and striking out nine Atchison batters. The only base runner for the A’s was Cole Siebenmorgan after reaching safely on an error by Sabetha’s third baseman Nolan Keim.

Sabetha looks to continue its winning streak tonight in a doubleheader against Hiawatha. Atchison will try to bounce back at Wathena to play Doniphan County with live coverage on 93.7 FM KAIR starting at 8 pm.
