In 2010, Manhattan Post 17 traveled to Dodge City, Kan. The result was a state championship in senior legion Class AAA for the 17ers.

Manko (24-14) looked prepared for another state title as the 17ers blasted past the Atchison A’s, 19-9 in seven innings.

The 17ers jumped out of the gate with nine runs off six hits in the first two innings. Second baseman posted a two-RBI double in the second inning. Centerfielder Kellen Myers, rightfielder Dustan Wipple and catcher Alex Huerta each provided a RBI hit in the top half of the inning.

Manko didn’t waste time to add more insurance runs to the lead, plating four more runs in the fourth to lead 13-0. Five hits were allowed by the A’s, four of which were doubles.

Atchison wouldn’t go down without a fight though, as the A’s posted seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to trail 13-7. Three walks were allowed by Manko’s Garrett Francis and he immediately received the hook by Coach Luke Snyder. Conner Brown stepped on the mound with bases loaded and Cody Calhoon blasted the first pitch to the outfield for a two-RBI single.

Second baseman Johnny Kane followed Calhoon with a single to juice the bases once again. After a Lane Fry strikeout, first baseman Hunter Olberding shot the ball to leftfield for a RBI. Third baseman Jimmy Priest came into the game leading the team in RBI. He showed why that was the case, placing a 1-0 pitch in the corner down the first base line for a three-RBI triple.

After holding Manko scoreless in the sixth, Lane Fry posted a two-RBI double to cut the deficit to four runs, trailing 13-9.

The 17ers had enough and plated six runs in the top of the seventh to close the door on any comeback Atchison planned on making.

Manko’s offense was led by first baseman Josh Klug, going 3-6 with two RBI, two walks and two runs scored. Rightfielder Dustan Wipple went 2-4 with an RBI. Catcher Alex Huerta posted a 2-4 night with three RBI. Chris Klug pitched four scoreless innings, striking out four and allowing three hits.

Cody Calhoon finished the night going 2-4 with two RBI. Third baseman Jimmy Priest went 2-4 with three RBI and catcher Lane Fry finished 2-4 with two RBI.

Manko will face Diamond Jaxx tonight at eight o’clock. With the loss, Atchison would have played Geiger Mix at 6, but Geiger Mix has forfeited the tournament. Atchison will play the loser of tonight's game between Diamond Jaxx and Manko.
