Zone 5 AA legion baseball tournament got underway back on Sunday (July 21st) and only featured two games of the six played that were decided by less than six runs.

In the opening round, Concordia took on Linn and Marysville hit the diamond against Frankfort. The number one seed in the zone Concordia pushed past Linn 11-4, while Marysville and Frankfort provided what would be the most competitive game of the zone tournament as Marysville used a late comeback in the bottom of the seventh to nip Frankfort 7-6.

That put Frankfort and Linn on the brink of elimination on Monday night (July 22nd) and Concordia and Marysville against each other in the winner's bracket matchup. Frankfort broke out some offense against Linn sending them home with a 15-3 win for Frankfort. Linn closed out their legion baseball season 8-10 on the year. Frankfort awaited the loser of the winner's bracket contest between Marysville and Concordia, as one of those teams would set themselves up to be one win away from a bid to the AA legion baseball state tournament.

Concordia would blank Marysville in the contest and come out on top 5-0 moving just one win away from the Zone tournament title.

On Tuesday, first up Marysville and Frankfort duked it out again on the diamond this time to stay alive and it would be a big inning for Marysville to propelled them to a 13-6 win. With the loss Frankfort finished off their season 8-9. Up next, Marysville had to face off with Concordia once again this time needing a pair of wins to win Zone.

Marysville got on the board but only managed four runs, while Concordia posted 11 the most of their three games in the tournament, grabbing the win 11-4. Marysville with the loss finished off their year 22-10, while Concordia improved to 22-1 on the season and punched their ticket to the AA legion baseball state tournament.
