Highland CC Basketball Ends Regular Season with Sweep & Playoff Matches Set

The regular season wrapped up at home for the Highland CC Scotties on Wednesday and both the men and women registered wins to head into the postseason with some momentum. The fourth ranked Lady Scotties took care of Hesston College with an 80-51 win, while the Highland men posted a 70-50 victory.

Night started with the ladies improving to 28-2 on the season with their win over Hesston as the Scotties built a 34-27 lead going into halftime and outscored Hesston 46-24 in the second half to gain the win, while shooting 47.5% from the floor. Lady Scotties were led by four players in double figures on night as Anna Deegan paced the way with 15 points, hitting four three-pointers, while Ashley Torres chipped in 12, Ryan Bowser scored 11 and Monique Heard added 10 points. Julia Alves added a near double-double with nine points and 14 rebounds on the night, as Highland out-rebounded Hesston 38-28.

In the men's game the Scotties clung to a 35-33 lead at the half and used a 35-17 second half to stretch their lead out and gain the 20-point win. Highland shot 43.5% from the floor, while out-rebounding Hesston 44-20 in bring themselves back to .500 on the season at 15-15 on the year. Martell Collins paced the Scotties with a strong double-double posting 31 points and 17 rebounds. Dominique Davis chipped in 17 points for Highland in the win.

Scotties now turn their attention to postseason play as the men will play on Saturday, March 1st at home and host Hesston in the first round of the NJCAA Division II District VI playoffs at 2:00pm. The women earned a first round bye and will play on Tuesday, March 4th at home at 7:00pm against a winner of a first round game between Fort Scott CC and Kansas City Kansas CC on Saturday.
