Seven Highland Basketball Players Earn KJCCC All-Conference Honors

As we are in postseason play all the postseason honors start to be announced and this year seven Highland CC Scottie basketball players form the men's and women's teams combined earned KJCCC All-Conference honors.

The Highland men wrapped up their season with a loss in the Region VI semifinals early this week falling 89-75 to Brown Mackie College to finish up their year 16-16. Sophomore, Martell Collins led the way for the Scotties throughout the season posting averages of 23ppg, 9.9rpg, 2apg, 1.2spg and registering 22 blocks on the year helping him earn All-Confernce honors from the KJCCC for the Eastern Division II. His freshman running mate, Dominque Davis enjoyed a solid first year at Highland averaging 18.4ppg, 3.9rpg, 4.3apg and 1.9spg earning him All-Conference honors and also the Freshman of the Year honor in the Eastern Division II. Sophomore, Torre' Somerville was the other Highland Scottie from the men's team to earn honors earning honorable mention All-Conference after he posted 8.3ppg, 2.3rpg, 2.9apg and 1.4spg this season.

For the women their season is still going as they are set to take on #2 Johnson County CC on Saturday at Koch Arena at 1:00pm in Wichita for the Region VI Championship, for a right to make the national tournament. The Scotties sit at 29-2 on the season and have spilt the series with Johnson County thus far this season with each team winning on the opposing team’s floor.

Lady Scotties this season have been led by multiple gals including the team’s leading scorer sophomore, Julia Alves who averages 13.2ppg, 8.9rpg, 1.3apg, 2.5spg and has recorded 24 blocks earning her a spot on the All-Conference team in KJCCC Eastern Division II. Sophomore, Ashely Torres joins Alves on the All-Conference team as she is averaging 12.7ppg, 4.2rpg, 2.3apg and 1.9spg this season for the Scotties.

Two more Scottie sophomores earned honorable mention All-Conference honors as Holton native, Ryann Bowser and Krystal Cohrn earned those honors. Bowser on the season has put up numbers across the board with averages of 8.6ppg, 3.5apg, 4.2rpg, 2.5spg and 12 blocks on the year, while shooting 34.5% from three-point land. For Corhn she's posted 7.7ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.9apg, 1.6spg on the year and recorded 21 blocks.

The honors piled in for the Scotties and for the Lady Scotties they hope to earn more honors as they try and continue their season on Saturday against Johnson County CC.
