Highland CC Women Basketball Team Earns Return Trip to NJCAA DII National Tourney

For the second straight year the Highland CC Lady Scotties are headed to NJCAA Division II National tournament after winning the Region VI Championship on Saturday by topping the #2 team in the country, Johnson County CC.

The Scotties went into the Region VI Championship ranked #4 in the latest polls and only two losses on the season, set to play JCCC for the third time this season in the rubber match with each team winning on each other’s court during the season. This time it was on a neutral court and for the third straight year the two meet up for the Regional title and the second straight year Highland was victorious grabbing the 54-52 win this year.

Scotties led 28-23 at the half but were outscored by three in the second half but down the stretch made the clutch plays to secure the win by two. Highland despite being out rebounded 64-46 and only shooting 35% earned the win behind a pair of players in double figures. Lady Scotties were led by Holton native, Ryann Bowser who posted 17 points on 6-9 field goals and 3-4 from free throw line, while adding six rebounds and six assists. Krystal Corhn joined Bowser in double figures finishing with 15 points in the competition.

With the win the Scotties improve to 30-2 on the season and are headed back to the national tournament where they placed fifth last year. The Scotties will start competition in the national tourney on Wednesday March 18th in Overland Park, KS at Johnson County CC.
