Falls City Sacred Heart Girls Win State Championship

Maggie Goltz vs. Wynot

(KLZA)-- The Falls City Sacred Heart Girls basketball team has won the 2015 Class D2 State Championship.

Saturday evening the Irish defeated Wynot 44-30 to wrap up a 28-2 campaign. That is the most wins in school history for a single season.  The Irish, finish with 23 straight wins on the year and bring and end to the title run by Wynot, the Blue Devils had won four straight years. 

Junior Maggie Goltz who has been hampered by leg problems all season played her best game of the year scoring 20 points and grabbing 8 rebounds for Sacred Heart.  Goltz hit five of six shots from the field in the game and 10 of 12 from the free throw line.  She was also a big help in handling the ball against the Wynot pressure defense. 

Seniors Elizabeth and Abby Magdanz capped stellar careers over the weekend.  In the title game Elizabeth scored 13 points including Sacred Hearts only three-point bucket of the game in the 4th quarter.  Abby Magdanz scored 7 points.

Sacred Heart now has four state titles in girls basketball, 2015 being the first since 2000.  

Magie Goltz and the Magdanz twins were named to the D-2 All-Tourney team.  

During the weekend Elizabeth Magdanz became eighth member of the 1,000 point club for the Sacred Heart girls, finishing 8th on the all-time scoring list. Abby Magdanz moved into the number two spot in career scoring for the Lady Irish.
