Seneca Wins Pair On the Road Over Sabetha

Seneca remained in the drive seat of the top spot in the League after picking up a pair of League wins at Sabetha on Wednesday, winning 9-0 and 11-3.

Game one was controlled by Seneca as they took the lead early and Cody Rottinghaus shutdown the Sabetha offense, leading to the 9-0 five inning win. Seneca got on the board early with two in the first and another in the second and finished the scoring with a six run fifth on three hits, three walks, a hit batter and Sabetha error. Cody was dialed in on the mound as he tossed a no-hitter pitching six innings giving up just five walks and struck out nine to earn the win, while going 2-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Dalton Hiltbrand and Justice McKernan each added a two hit game for Seneca, while Blake Popkess and Jake Meyer were each on the base for Sabetha twice via walks.

The nightcap proved to be a different game but ultimately the same outcome with a Seneca win. Seneca struck first with a run in the first, but Sabetha answered with two runs in the bottom of the first off two Seneca errors and a hit. Sabetha added to their lead with another run in the third and lead 3-1 going into the top of the fifth just three outs away from the win, but Seneca wasn't done. Using a walk, pair of hits and a sacrifice fly Seneca tied the game at 3-3 and ultimately forced extra innings, where in the top of the sixth they scored eight runs to earn the 11-3 win.

Devin Henry, Alex Rottinghaus, Dustin Rottinghaus, Cody Rottinghaus and Justice McKernan all had a two-hit game in game two for Seneca, while Alec Kirwan led Sabetha in the loss going 2-3 with a double and an RBI.

The two wins puts Seneca at 22-4 on the season and 17-3 in the League, while Sabetha falls to 7-23 overall and 4-12 in League action.
