It was a full weekend of Legion baseball action for Northeast Kansas League teams with action on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday both Doniphan County and Hiawatha picked up League double header sweeps on their home diamonds as Doniphan County won 11-0 and 20-1 over Frankfort each time in four innings and Hiawatha won a pair of one-run games over Oskaloosa, 5-4 and 3-2. Seneca and Atchison also squared off in League action on Saturday and split the double header with Atchison winning 6-5 and Seneca claiming a 9-3 win. Sabetha hosted Leavenworth Ready Mix in non-league action and picked up the 16-3 four inning win.

Sunday saw Doniphan County pick up other pair of League wins as they hosted Hiawatha for a twin bill and picked the 15-5 win in four innings and 12-3 victory in six frames.

Doniphan County Dispatches Frankfort With Barrage of Runs

Doniphan County welcomed Frankfort to town on Saturday and pounced the opportunities presented to them in the games with free passes and timely hitting to route Frankfort 11-0 and 20-1 in four innings each.

In game one Caleb Winkel shutdown the Frankfort offense pitching the complete four innings for the shutout win giving up just two hits and a walk, while striking out four, while the Doniphan County offense backed him up with 11 runs. Reid Greaser blasted another home run and finished with two runs scored, a pair of walks and an RBI, while Alex Scmille went 2-2 with an RBI and Phoenix Keller added a 1-1 performance with two runs scored and two RBI's.

Game two was even more a barrage of runs for Doniphan County as they poured out 20 runs to claim the 20-1 win in four innings. Keller started the game pitching two frames, while Cooper Leach finished it off for the final two innings. Nathan Gaarder led the monster offensive output by going 3-4 with two home runs, two runs scored and six RBI's, while Keller was 2-2 with two RBI's and two runs scored.

Doniphan County with the wins on Saturday improved to 22-3 on the season and stretched their win streak to 10 straight, while Frankfort fell to 3-13 on the season.

Hiawatha Wins Pair of Tight Battles With Oskaloosa

It was some late timely scoring coming up big for Hiawatha as they topped Oskaloosa on Saturday for a pair of one-run League wins at Noble Park, winning 5-4 and 3-2.

Hiawatha got on the board first in game one using four singles in the bottom of the first to take the 2-0 lead but Oskaloosa tied the game in the top of the fourth using two walks, two hits, an error and sacrifice to make it 2-2. The scoring went quiet after that until the seventh when Oskaloosa used a pair of hits to plate two more runs and lead 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. Hiawatha wouldn't waste any opportunities in the seventh as Gavin Lierz reached on an error to lead the inning off and scored on an RBI triple by Dakota Bayles the next batter; an RBI groundout by Ryker Smith tied the game at 4-4 with one-out in the bottom of the seventh, when Brendan Steele laced a triple and Parker Hasenkamp then stepped to the plate and brought him home with the walk-off RBI single for the 5-4 Hiawatha win.

An 11-hit attack lead Hiawatha with Bayles going 3-4 with two triples, a double, RBI and run scored, while Steele and Taylor Jacobsen each had two hits. Bayles also earned the win pitching the final inning after Shawn Green was solid on six plus innings giving up three runs on five hits, four walks and struck out three. Jordan Burghart started for Oskaloosa and went six innings giving up four runs on nine hits, one walk, while Bryce Stottlemire took the loss; Ethan Burghart had the only multi-hit game for Oskaloosa in the loss going 2-4.

In game two it again was a run late in the game that proved to be the difference for Hiawatha in the 3-2 win. Hiawatha once again took the early lead plating two in the bottom of the first using two singles, a walk, hit batter and sac-fly. Oskaloosa tied the game with two in the top of the fourth as Jordan Burghart blasted a two-run homer, but Hiawatha answered the call in the bottom of the frame making a leadoff walk pay dividends, ultimately for the 3-2 win.

Bayles again earned the win on the mound going all five innings giving up two runs on two hits and one walk, while striking out seven, while Hiawatha only had four hits as a team. Ethan Burghart took the loss for Oskaloosa going four frames giving up three runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

The wins pushed Hiawahta to 8-13 on the season, while Oskaloosa with the losses fell to 13-15 on the year.

Sabetha Routes Leavenworth Ready Mix Using Big Third Inning

The Sabetha Raptors picked up their ninth win of the season after taking down Leavenworth Ready Mix in non-league action on Saturday with a 16-3 four inning win.

It was a 10-run out-burst for the Sabetha offense that proved to the deciding factor in the contest as they trailed 2-0 before taking their bats off their shoulders but answered with five runs in the bottom of the first and then one in the second and the 10-run frame in the third. Sabetha took advantage of six free passes and six hits in the third to score their 10 runs with highlighting the frame Preston Bruning with three RBI’s in the inning.  Seth Burdick added a pair of hits and three RBI's on the night, while Blake Popkess pitched the four inning complete game scattering five singles and striking out five.

The win pushes Sabetha to 9-24 overall on the season.

Doniphan County Wins a Pair of League Affairs Over Hiawatha

The win streak continued to stretch out for Doniphan County on Sunday as they hosted Hiawatha and picked up a pair of wins, one coming easier than the other, winning 12-3 in four innings and 12-3 in six innings.

The runs continued to the roll out for Doniphan County as they posted 15 to back the pitching outing of Nathan Gaarder who went all four innings for the win giving up five runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out five. Alex Schmille led the offense with a 3-3 performance with three runs scored and an RBI, while Reid Greaser had three RBI's and Cooper Leach went 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hiawatha had six guys register a hit in the loss and have five errors in the game.

Game two proved to be a tighter contest than the final scored would indicate as Hiawatha led 3-1 going into the bottom of the fourth when Doniphan County would score four runs and added four more in the fifth and three in the sixth to end the game at 12-3. Leach led Doniphan County going all six innings giving up three runs on nine hits, two walks and struck out four, while Gaarder was 2-3 with two runs scored, an RBI and walk to lead the offense. Hiawatha in the loss had a 3-4 performance from Dakota Bayles, while Parker Hasenkamp and Marshall Swearingen each had two hits.

The wins put Doniphan County at 24-3 on the season and extend their winning streak to 12 straight games, while Hiawatha fell to 8-15 on the year.
