(Falls City)-- Normally you don’t schedule the top-ranked team in the state for homecoming.   But if you do, and you beat them the alums go home happy.

The Falls City Sacred Heart Irish won their 5th straight game and will likely move from #2 to #1 in the Class D-2 Nebraska 8-Man football ratings after knocking off #1 Exeter-Milligan 42-26 Friday night at Jug Brown Stadium. The loss ends a 31-game winning streak for the back-to-back state champs.

Sacred Heart senior quarterback Bailey Witt led the Irish on an 8-play 67 yard drive on the Irish first possession of the game setting the tone with a 1 yard run.  That was the first of Witt’s five TD runs on the night.  Witt scored on runs of 1, 4, 9, 12 and 3 yards and then tossed a 33 yard strike to classmate and homecoming King Henry Arnold for the final score of the night for Sacred Heart.

Witt finished the night with 95 yards rushing on 20 attempts and hit 3 of 6 pass attempts for 64 yards.

The Irish defense was stout in a hard-hitting game that saw Exeter-Milligan held to 126 yards on the ground and 95 yards passing.

Arnold caught two balls for 42 yards in the game and Sean Arnold ran 15 times for 92 yards for Sacred Heart. The Irish had only one turnover and the defense had a pair of takeaways.

Arnold was crowned Homecoming King and Maggie Goltz was named Homecoming Queen.

The Irish play at Sterling next Friday.
