Top Ranked Sacred Heart Wins Playoff Opener

(KTNC)-- Top ranked Falls City Sacred Heart trailed 6-0 to Emerson-Hubbard after one quarter Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the Class D2 football playoffs. 

The Pirates scored a second touchdown on the first play of the second quarter to lead 12-0 before the Irish got on the board on a Christian Harring 32 yard run to make it 12-8.  Another Pirate touchdown pass made it 18-6 with 7:55 left in the first half.

A Henry Arnold 53 yard punt return brought the Irish to within 2 at 18-16 with 3:54 to go in the half.  On the next offensive play for Emerson-Hubbard quarterback Taylor Donner suffered a game-ending injury. 

Sacred Heart did all of the scoring in the second half and won the game 52-18. 

Quarterback Bailey Witt scored three touchdowns on the ground picking up more than 100 yards on the ground and Harring had 85 yards and scored twice.  

Michael Keithley also scored on a 35 yard fumble recovery early in the fourth quarter.  

Sacred Heart will host Randolph in the second round of the playoffs next Wednesday.
