Sacred Heart Loses in D2 Quarterfinal Round

(KLZA)-- Humphrey St. Francis senior tailback Kyle Wemhoff carried the football 47 times for 238 yards and a pair of scores Tuesday afternoon to lead the Class D2 East Bracket top seeded Flyers to a 46-14 win over 4th seed and top ranked Falls City Sacred Heart.

A stout Flyer defense held the Irish to 80 yards rushing,  58 of which came on the last offensive play for the Irish, a TD run for freshman Drew Bippes.

The Flyers hit all three of their pass attempts for 47 yards and a score.  Irish quarterback Bailey Witt hit 9 of 13 attempts for 143 yards and a score to Henry Arnold covering 58 yards.

After a scoreless first quarter the Flyers to an 8-0 lead on a run by quarterback Damien Baumgart. The Irish got back to within 2 with 5:42 to go in the half.  The Flyers led 16-8 at halftime and scored two more TD’s in the third period.

Each team was penalized once in the game.  Sacred Heart turned the ball over three times in the game while the Flyers did not have a turnover. The Flyers had scoring drives that took 9, 12, 11 and 9 plays to keep the ball away from the Irish offense which ran just 10 offensive plays in the first half.

Sacred Heart finishes the season 9-2.
