The No. 8-ranked Hiawatha boys in Class 3A proved their January victory was no fluke Tuesday night, completing a regular-season sweep of Nemaha Central with a 61–49 win at the Roundhouse. The matchup served as a rematch of the Thunder Classic third-place game, where the Redhawks previously topped the Thunder 61–54.
Hiawatha found its rhythm early, jumping out to a 15–12 lead after the opening quarter. The Redhawks continued their efficient offensive play in the second, outpacing Nemaha Central to take a 35–28 advantage into halftime.
A 14–9 run in the third quarter allowed Hiawatha to extend its lead to 49–37. While Nemaha Central attempted to chip away in the fourth, the Redhawks’ disciplined ball security—committing just six turnovers all night—helped them maintain a comfortable double-digit lead through the final buzzer.
Braylen Siebenmorgen led a balanced Hiawatha attack with 14 points, five rebounds, a steal, and a block. Lane Kesler controlled the paint with 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Leyton Moore provided a spark off the bench with nine points and a steal. Michael Jensen (five rebounds, one steal, one block) and Ethan Morton (three rebounds, two assists, two steals) each added eight points. Karson Henry chipped in six points, and Alex Ross rounded out the scoring with two points and a block. As a team, the Redhawks knocked down eight three-pointers and finished 3-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Nemaha Central stayed competitive at the charity stripe, shooting an impressive 12-of-16. Jack Macke led the Thunder with 13 points, followed by Kalem Schmelzle with 11 and Layton Thomas with 10. Caleb Strathman added five points, two rebounds, and a block, while Jayden Seitz and Jordan Lewis each scored three points. Carter Hajek and Mason Schultejans finished with two points apiece, and Cormik Hajek chipped in one.
With the win, Hiawatha improves to 13–3 overall and 5–1 in Big East League play, moving into second place in the league standings. Nemaha Central falls to 11–6 overall and 6–1 in conference action.
Nemaha Central will return home to face Silver Lake, while Hiawatha travels to take on Riley County.
