Fast Start Lifts Jeff West Girls to 62-39 Win Over Sabetha

The Jefferson West girls basketball team set the tone early Tuesday night at Sabetha, racing to a 17-5 first-quarter lead on the way to a commanding 62-39 victory.

The Tigers extended their advantage to 34-17 by halftime and carried a 46-25 lead into the fourth quarter. Jefferson West connected on 10 three-pointers, grabbed 39 rebounds, and committed 12 turnovers in the win.

Emmie Dean led the Tigers with 21 points, including five three-pointers, earning KNZA Player of the Game honors. Brynlee Koontz recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Harriet Dean added 10 points and six rebounds. Addison Schwinn and Kolbie Noel each contributed seven points.

Sabetha finished with 20 turnovers and 29 rebounds, shooting 4-of-14 from the free-throw line while making seven three-pointers. The Bluejays were led by Paxton Michael, who hit five three-pointers and scored 15 points. Chloe Detweiler added six points, and Sophia Haverkamp chipped in five.

With the win, Jefferson West improves to 11-7 overall and 5-4 in Big East League play. The loss drops Sabetha to 3-15 overall and 1-8 in league competition.
