Centralia, B&B & Holton Highlight New KVA Volleyball Rankings
By Mike Smith

The weekly Kansas Volleyball Association rankings have been released and yet again two familiar Kanzaland area teams find themselves highly ranked, but a few new Kanzaland teams are in the rankings and receiving votes this week.

Since the start of the season two of the more dominate volleyball programs in the state have been ranked and they both are from the Twin Valley League; the Centralia Panthers and Baileyville-B&B Falcons are both now ranked number one in their respective classes. For the Centralia Panthers they are coming off a tournament win this past weekend at the Hiawatha Invite taking down B&B in the championship game, avenging losses to the Falcons earlier this season; this performance helped propel them into first place in the Class 1A-Division I rankings moving up one spot. The Panthers are 17-2 on the season with a pair of wins over Washington County and Valley Heights recently. Centrali is looking primed and ready to make another run at the state title.

For the B&B Falcons they may have took second to the Panthers at the Hiawatha Invite recently but they responded with two wins at the Frankfort Triangular over Wetmore and Frankfort both in straight sets. The Falcons are 18-2 on the season and have only lost to two other top teams in the state in Centralia and Washington County this season. Falcons are looking to soar to state once again and defend their state title.

The only other Kanzaland area team in the top five rankings of their respective class, is a newcomer to the rankings this week that is the Holton Wildcats in Class 4A, who find themselves ranked fifth. Holton is coming off a big tournament win this past weekend when the won the Rossville Invite. Wildcats are 12-2 on the season (doesn't include 9/18 games vs. Perry Lecompton).

While Centralia, B&B and Holton are the three teams in the KVA rankings there are three teams right on the outside of the top five in their class looking in, also. In Class 4A the Jeff West Tigers are right outside the top five with a 10-3 record, while in Class 2A Washington County is not undefeated anymore with a loss to Centralia recently and fell out of the top five but is receiving votes with their 12-1 record. The other team right outside the rankings is in Class 3A and that's the Nemaha Valley Raiders who are 11-5 on the season.
