2013 Kansas State HS Track & Field Results (143 medalists & 21 State Champs)

Day two is underway and thus far 143 area athletes have claimed medals including 21 state titles.

In day two action Lucas Adams of Frankfort took home the Class 1A pole vault title behind a personal record of 13-06, while Elijah Smith of Valley Heights picked up another state title winning the Class 1A 110m hurdles with a time of 14.84.

Hanover girls 4x800m Relay team of Claire Bruna, Tiffany Bruna, Jenna Jueneman and Courtney Jueneman came into state with the best time and won the state title with a time of 10:05.55. Courtney Jueneman then went on to win a state title on her own claiming the Class 1A title in the 800m run with a time of 2:24.40. Freshman from Valley Heights, Brandi Jo Roepke claimed the Class 1A 100m Dash with a time of 12.54, the 400m Dash crown with time of 57.92 and the 200m Dash with a time of 26.46.

Haley Strathman of B&B claimed her second medal of the 2013 state track competition this time making it back-to-back state titles in Class 1A high jump, leaping to the win with a leap of 5-04, she tried for the state record, but just missed out.

Lukas Koch of Centralia on day two nearly set his second state record registering a time of 4:16.63 to win the 1600m run in Class 1A; his time was less than one second off the state record. Koch then made it a trifecta of golds by winning the 800m run (1:58.96), going two straight years with three golds. William Ohlde of Clifton-Clyde continued the TVL dominance by winning the Class 1A 300m hurdles with a time of 39.60. While, Linn's Kurt Van Der Mewe won the Class 1A 200m Dash with a time of 23.48.

Connor Strader of Holton and Perry Lecompton boys 4x400m Relay team were the only rea athletes not in Class 1A to win a state titles on day two as Strader won the Class 4A 800m run with a time of 2:21.67 and Perry posted a time of 3:26.32 to win the 4x400m Relay in Class 4A.

Leading the way on day one was perhaps the performance of the State track meet as Lukas Koch of Centralia who wanted to set at least one state record this year and he did it in his first event winning the 3200m run with a time of 9:27.96, defending his title in the event, too.

Another state championship was grabbed in the 3200m run this time in Class 3A with Jordan Puvogel of Hiawatha winning the event with a time of 11:22.61. Big Seven claimed another state title as Sabetha Bluejay, Meagan Garrett won the high jump behind a leap of 5-04.

The TVL got back into the State titles again with Valley Heights Mustang, Elijah Smith leaping his way to a win in the triple jump behind a leap of 44-05.75. Laura Sudbeck of B&B made herself the two-time Class 1A state champion in the shot put with a toss of 40-08.50 to win the state title.

As the events picked up the Delaware Valley League had two athletes earn state titles with Conner Schultz of Riverside winning the Class 3A triple jump (36-07) and Heather Polson of Jefferson County North winning the Class 2A high jump (5-02).
