Kansas HS Football Rankings After Week One -- Four Area Teams Ranked in Polls & Several Others Getting Attention

The first week of football action is in the books across the state of Kansas and many teams from the area find themselves in the rankings or on the cusp of joining the rankings early in the season.

Four area teams find themselves in the Top Five of at least one of the polls across the State, with many more getting looks for the polls.

In Class 4A-DII the Holton Wildcats remain in the Top Five across the State in the VarsityKansas, Kpreps and Topeka Capital Journal polls, despite falling in the season opener 18-7 to the #1 3A team in Silver Lake. Wildcats are ranked third by VarsityKansas, Kansasprepfootball.com and Kpreps, while remaining second by the Topeka Capital Journal. Fellow Big Seven school in Perry Lecompton remained in the others category in some polls after a 45-20 win over Tonganoxie week one for the Kaws.

In Class 3A, after no area teams started the season ranked the Centralia Panthers have broken into the Top Five in the Topeka Capital Journal after week one, coming in at #5, after their dominating 54-6 win over Valley Heights. The Panthers are in the others category in a few of the other polls. Three Big Seven schools are also in the others to watch category in multiple polls. Both Nemaha Central and Riverside picked up wins in week one as the Thunder topped rival Sabetha 35-27 and Riverside joined the Big Seven League with a bang beating Jeff West 35-14 in week one. Along with Nemaha Central and Riverside, the Sabetha Bluejays despite their loss to Nemaha Central area in the others to watch category in 3A.

Class 2A, the Troy Trojans lead the way from the area as they check in at #3 in both the Topeka Capital Journal and VarsityKansas polls after a week one shutout win over Washington County, 30-0. The Trojans are in the others to watch category for other polls.

8-Man Division I house the highest ranked area team as the Hanover Wildcats opened the season with a 52-14 win over Axtell and moved up to #1 in the Topeka Capital Journal, VarsityKansas Kansasprepfootball.com and the Kpreps polls. Clifton-Clyde is in the others to watch category despite an opening week loss to Frankfort.

In the 8-Man Division II polls, those Frankfort Wildcats who beat Clifton-Clyde 38-30 in the the others to watch category after coming back from a halftime deficit to win in week one. Linn is also receiving some early season looks after dispatching Wilson, 52-16.

Teams now turn their attention to week two and either continuing their momentum from week one or bouncing back from a week one loss.
