Highland Harriers Earn Early Season National Ranking

Highland Community College women’s cross country coach Tom Bond has been notified that his team has moved into the early season national rankings at 21st place.  “I’m really happy for the girls because the team has endured several early injuries. We have not run these early meets as a full squad and probably won’t until Emporia in three weeks. With the injuries, we have had to find new methods of training and really adapt and overcome in a variety of ways. This is different for the girls and me as well. This is a group of individuals who are very determined and hard working, which is reflected in the national ranking.  Now, if we can get healthy and stay healthy, we will get faster as the season progresses,” Bond stated

Scottie team members, except for one, are all within the local recruiting area: Courtney Armon, (Farmington, MO). ), Monica Garcia, (Topeka), Jen Hall, (Carbondale), Skylie Hughes, (St Joseph, MO), Kalli Morland (Louisburg), and Syvannah Williams, (Leavenworth).  The next meet for the women is Saturday, September 13, at Central Missouri University, Warrensburg, MO.

Highland Football Falls To Iowa Western

The #2 ranked Iowa Western Reivers continued their dominance of the Highland Community College football team as the Scotties just couldn’t get their offense going on Saturday and fell at home by the final of 41-0.  After a first half being unable to sustain a drive, Scottie head coach Aaron Arnold changed quarterbacks as freshman Danten Cosentino (Shawnee Mission) saw his first action of the season and tried to rally the sputtering offense, but was unable to crack the dominant Reiver defense.

The Scotties, 1-2 overall and 0-1 in Jayhawk Conference play, will take on another Iowa opponent as they travel to Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday, September 20.
