Postseason volleyball commenced over the weekend with spots to the State tournament in each respective classification up for grabs and six area teams punched their tickets to State next Friday and Saturday.

In Class 1A-Division II the Axtell Eagles will be representing the Twin Valley League at State in Hays after winning their Sub-State. Axtell as the number one seed had a first round bye, then topped Colony-Crest 25-12, 25-14 in the Semifinals before taking down Wetmore in the Championship match 21-25, 25-13, 25-10. The Eagles head into the State tournament with a 24-15 record and return to State for the first time since 2005.

The Centralia Panthers will have an opportunity to defend their Class 1A-Division I State title from last year as they make yet again another trip to Hays for State volleyball. The Panthers won their Sub-State at Valley Heights, by opening competition with a first round bye, then beating Frankfort 25-10, 25-4 in the Semifinals and took down Valley Heights 25-12, 25-21 in the Championship to win another Sub-State title. The Panthers will be looking for their 12th State title when they head to Hays and will be touting a 39-1 record going into State.

Joining Centralia at State this year also from the TVL will be the Clifton-Clyde Eagles who as the two seed at the Hanover Sub-State earned a bid to the Class 1A-Division I State tournament. Clifton-Clyde had a first round bye and then beat Hanover 25-17, 25-14 in the Semifinals to make the Championship match in which they won 25-20, 25-15 over Lakeside to make State. The Eagles will head into the State tournament with a 17-15 record on the season.

The TVL continues to be represented at State volleyball competitions as the Washington County Tigers return to State after missing the tournament last year and winning the Class 2A title back in 2012. The Tigers played host to a 2A Sub-State and as the number one seed took on Onaga in the opening round winning 25-21, 25-13, moving to the Semifinals to take down Troy 25-15, 25-8 pushing them to the Championship match. In the Championship match the Tigers took on Valley Falls and picked up the 25-18, 25-21 lead. Washington County brings a 34-4 record to the Class 2A State tournament.

In their first year as Nemaha Central the Thunder keep the great volleyball tradition of Nemaha Valley and B&B going by earning a spot at the Class 3A State competition. The Thunder cruised past Riverside in the opening round of Sub-State 25-7, 25-11, then took on Sabetha in the Semifinals and picked up the 25-23, 25-15 win. In the Championship match Nemaha Central needed three sets to gain the win, falling in set one only to come back and win the match 16-25, 25-21, 25-23. The Thunder head into the State competition touting a 32-11 record on the season and look to continue the tradition of Raiders and Falcons volleyball before them, who both made State last year.

Not only will the Big Seven League be represented at the Class 3A State tournament, but also at the Class 4A-Division II State competition, also as the Royal Valley Panthers claimed the Sub-State title at Jeff West. The Panthers opened Sub-State up with a though three set win over Jeff West 26-24, 27-29, 25-21 and then took down Atchison in the Championship match winning 25-14, 25-15.

Taking home some hardware with Sub-State championships the six area teams now turn their attention for some more hardware for the trophy cases as the State tournament commence on October 31st and continue on November 1st.
